A photograph of the navy dockyard from my balcony up in Harbour Heights Drive. I remember a few years back there used to be a sign up on Red Hill which read something along the lines of, ‘photographing of the navy base strictly forbidden’.

This is Simonstown main road. The famous South Easter wind is blowing again and the clouds coming in reflect a pink glow from the sun setting.

I’m back from photographing the wedding in Swellendam. It went well. To see a picture of the bride please click www.myphotographer.bundublog.com
That aside, since I could not photograph anything today for Simonstown from Simonstown, I’m posting a picture of Seaforth/water’s edge as it’s a favourite of mine. It’s warm here tonight, a swim would be nice, perhaps tomorrow…

I’ve come away for the weekend to a little town called Heidelberg along the N2 on the way to the Garden route to photograph a wedding tomorrow in Swellendam (If you know of someone who needs a photographer for a wedding or event then please refer them to my link on the right). So forgive me for the late posting in the day and I’ll have to cheat tomorrow unless someone is reading that stays in Simonstown and wants to post me a picture that I can post? Anyway, besides all getting back to normal late Sunday afternoon/evening, this is another view of the navy with the remains of the old cablecar supports in the foreground. If it could and did still run it would be a definite tourist attraction for Simonstown, don’t you agree?

Forest way is just down Pine steps off Runciman drive, which is a mere 5 minutes walk from my doorstep. There are only a few trees left, but I can imagine that once there must have been a pine forest here, and beautiful it must have been.

I love this little house and it always seems to catch my eye when I walk past. Simonstown has many little fishing cottages which are just as cute, I’ll be sure to post a picture of a street with such houses soon.

Simonstown main road is a beautiful road to walk along what with its interesting shops to explore and old buildings with lots of character to photograph.

It is a beautiful evening here tonight, very still and the silence is broken only by crickets chirping and a low hum drifting up from the naval base.

Happy Easter. Another beautiful day. Not being as windy as yesterday, it’s sure to be a great beach day. Boulders beach is a wonderful family beach with perfect swimming places and for penguin spotting. The boardwalk between Seaforth and Boulders is a free walk perfect for a morning stroll and conversing with penguins.

This is just one of many beautiful buildings in Simonstown.

Just Nuisance, the great Dane, an able seaman, a companion, a friend. This photograph is of the statue of him erected at Jubilee Square. Just Nuisance was born on a Thursday on the 1st of April 1937 in Rondebosch.
His favourite place to rest was on the deck, but being a large do, no-one could easily get past him and at times he refused to budge. The sailors would say - “You’re just a nuisance, why do you have to lie here of all places?!” - and this is how he got his name.

I took my son for a walk down to Water’s Edge so that he could run around and burn off some energy whilst dad did some quick photography. I must say I really love this house, and the little private beach too as it is a great spot for swimming and for a photographer seeking solitude.

What would a Simonstown daily photo blog be without a photograph of some penguins at Seaforth beach?

It was a beautiful day today here in Simonstown, South Africa and I wanted to share my view with the rest of the world. This picture shows the view from my balcony and two tugs getting ready to pull a ship out of the harbour so that it may go on its voyage.
